Wine HQ is a Open Source software available for LINUX Operating systems for running Windows application.

In this tutorial I will show you how to install the latest development version of wine 1.7.20 on Fedora 20/19/18/17 , CentOS 6.5/6.4/6.3 and Redhat 6.5/6.4/6.3.

Wine supports on Linux,solaris,Free BSD for running windows applications.

New in Wine 1.7.20

  • X11 drag & drop fixes.
  • A few more C/C++ runtime functions.
  • Fixes for various memory issues found by Valgrind.
  • Some OLE storage fixes.
  • Various bug fixes.

Installation steps

Step 1:Install Dependency packages

yum -y groupinstall 'Development Tools'
yum -y install libX11-devel freetype-devel

Step 2:Download Wine 1.7.20

There is no repository for wine installation,manually we need to download the tar file for installing the wine

wget http://kaz.dl.sourceforge.net/project/wine/Source/wine-1.7.20.tar.bz2


Step 3:extract the Package and install wine 1.7.20
tar -xvf wine-1.7.20.tar.bz2 -c /tmp/
For 32 bit systems
cd wine-1.7.20/
./tools/wineinstall
For 64 bit systems
./configure--enable-win64
make
makeinstall
After successfull installation check working or not by opening any windows application
eg: wine application name

In this Tutorial I will show you how to install the stable version of Firefox 30.0 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS / 13.10 /12.04 LTS, LinuxMint 15 / Fedora 20 / 19 / CentOS 6.X / OpenMandriva & OpenSUSE

Firefox an opensource browser and it is developed by mozilla corporation and mozilla Foundation and  available for Multiple Operating systems (ie) Windows,Linux,Mac OSX. 

Firefox Released its new stable Version 30 on 11th June 2014

New Features added in Firefox 30.0

  • Support for GStreamer 1.0
  • Mac OS X command-E sets find term to selected text
  • Sidebar button gives easier access to social, bookmark, & history sidebars
  • Fixes to box-shadow and other visual overflow
  • Error stack now contains column number
  • Support for alpha option in canvas context options
  • Ignore autocomplete="off" when offering to save passwords via the password manager
  • TypedArrays don't support new named properties

Installation Steps

Method 1 (For Debian based systems)

In Ubuntu Repositories Firefox 30 added so easy to install,just update the repos and upgrade it
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
Method  2

Step 1:Download The Latest Version of Firefox 30 from their FTP
For Downloading from Mozilla FTP Click HERE

(Or) 

Use wget 

For 32 bit systems
wget ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/30.0/linux-i686/en-US/firefox-30.0.tar.bz2
For 64 bit systems
wget ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/30.0/linux-x86_64/en-US//firefox-30.0.tar.bz2
Step 2: Extract the tar package
tar -xjf firefox-30.0.tar.bz2
Step 3: Move the Firefox30 folder to opt
Remove the Older version of firefox if it's there
sudo rm -rf  /opt/firefox
sudo mv firefox /opt/firefox30
Step 4: Create Symbolic link for New Firefox as default
sudo ln -s /opt/firefox30/firefox /usr/bin/firefox

In this Tutorial I will show you how to Install the Latest version of Kernel 3.14.7 On Ubuntu 14.04LTS / 13.10 / 12.04LTS/ LinuxMint / Debian systems.

The Latest stable version of Kernel is 3.14.17 and it released on 12th June 2014

Installation steps

Step 1: Download the deb files directly using wget ,copy the below commands and paste it in terminal one by one according to your cpu architecture

For 32 bit systems


wget -c kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.7-utopic/linux-headers-3.14.7-031407_3.14.7-031407.201406111644_all.deb
wget -c kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.7-utopic/linux-headers-3.14.7-031407-generic_3.14.7-031407.201406111644_i386.deb
wget -c kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.7-utopic/linux-image-3.14.7-031407-generic_3.14.7-031407.201406111644_i386.deb
For 64 bit systems


wget -c kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.7-utopic/linux-headers-3.14.7-031407_3.14.7-031407.201406111644_all.deb
wget -c kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.7-utopic/linux-headers-3.14.7-031407-generic_3.14.7-031407.201406111644_amd64.deb
wget -c kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.7-utopic/linux-image-3.14.7-031407-generic_3.14.7-031407.201406111644_amd64.deb

Step 2: After successfull downloading  install it


sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-3.14.17* linux-image-3.14.17* .deb

Step 3:Verify installed Version

After successfull installation reboot the system,and check with uname. Your new kernel will be installed and set as default

Removing  Kernel 3.14.17

For removing the Kernel 3.14.17 run the below command in terminal or use synaptic package manager


sudo apt-get remove linux-headers-3.14.17* linux-image-3.14.17*

Two ways to install wine in Ubuntu

Method 1

Install via Ubuntu software center and type wine and install it

Method 2

Open Terminal and type the following lines
sudo add-apt repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppasudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install wine 1.7sudo apt-get install wine winetricks
Thats it wine installed..and you can open any windows program by right click and open the *.exe with wine windows program loader..........

REMOVING WINE

For removing the wine software completely run the following command in terminal


sudo apt-get --purge remove winesudo apt-get auto remove

In this Tutorial I will tell you how to install virtualbox 4.3.6 on Ubuntu 13.04/12.10/12.04 & LinuxMint

Installation Procedure

Step 1: Login as root user and Install the Dependency Package

sudo su

apt-get install dkms

Step 2:Download and install the Key From oracle for virtualbox

wget -q http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian/oracle vbox.asc -o- | apt-key add-

Step 3:Add the Oracle Key To Repository 

For Ubuntu 13.04

sh -c 'echo "deb http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian raring  contrib" >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/virtualbox.list'

For Ubuntu 12.10

sh -c 'echo "deb http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian quantal contrib" >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/virtualbox.list'

For Ubuntu 12.04

sh -c 'echo "deb http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian precise contrib" >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/virtualbox.list'

Step 4: Update the Repo

apt-get update

Step 5: Install Virtualbox

apt-get install virtualbox-4.3

That's it virtualbox installed successfully..............
