How To Install 7zip on Ubuntu


7 Zip is the best file archiver.It is an open source software.It extracts and compress in the format7z, XZ, BZIP2, GZIP, TAR, ZIP and WIM

Features of 7 Zip
  • Unpacking only: ARJ, CAB, CHM, CPIO, CramFS, DEB, DMG, FAT, HFS, ISO, LZH, LZMA, MBR, MSI, NSIS, NTFS, RAR, RPM, SquashFS, UDF, VHD, WIM, XAR and Z.
  • For ZIP and GZIP formats, 7-Zip provides a compression ratio that is 2-10 % better than the ratio provided by PKZip and WinZip
  • Strong AES-256 encryption in 7z and ZIP formats
  • Self-extracting capability for 7z format
In this Tutorial i will tell you how to install 7zip on Ubuntu

Installation Procedure

Open Terminal and Type the following commands

Step 1: Login as root user

Step 2:Install p7zip package

          apt-get install p7zip-full


Now 7zip package completely installed and for rar extraction and compression we need to install separate package

Step 3:Install rar package

          apt-get install p7zip-rar


Thats it 7zip completely installed and its ready to compress or uncompress files.
