How To Install / Remove VLC Media Player 2.1 on Ubuntu / LinuxMint via PPA



VLC Media Player formerly known as VideoLan Client

It is the most popular mediaplayer downloading and used on all operating systems Linux,Windows and MAC OS X

The Latest Version  VLC 2.1 released on a week ago

Highlights of VlC 2.1

  • With a new audio core, hardware decoding and encoding, port to mobile platforms, preparation for Ultra-HD video and a special care to support more formats, 2.1 is a major upgrade for VLC.
  • Rincewind has a new rendering pipeline for audio, with better efficiency, volume and device management, to improve VLC audio support.
In This Tutorial I will tell you how to install vlc media player 2.1 on ubuntu / LinuxMint via ppa

The procedures are same for linux mint 15,14

Installation steps

Step 1: Login as root user and add the repository 
            
           add-apt-repository ppa:videolan/stable-daily

Step 2: Update the repository and install VLC
            
           apt-get update

             apt-get install vlc

Removing  VLC

Run the Following command in terminal

           apt-get  remove vlc
